It’s that time of year to set the clocks ahead here in North America. Daylight savings time begins this Sunday. Although I’d rather just stick with one standard time (lucky Arizonians!), there’s a useful metaphor at work here.
In the fall, we set the clocks back to standard time. This “Falling Back” aligns with the natural energies of autumn. It’s the season for reflecting, reviewing our lives, looking back at what has happened and assessing what is working and isn’t, what needs healing, release, and change.
Entering spring, the energy is quite different. We’re stepping out into the world again, into the increasing warmth and light. Rather than looking back to review and assess, we’re looking forward to where we are headed. It’s a time to adjust the sails – to see if the course we are on is where we really want to go, and to put full steam ahead into the vision of our lives.
Taking this a step further, the metaphor of “springing forward” – jumping ahead one hour – represents a change in consciousness.
At this moment, we can leap into a higher vibration through our intention. We can align ourselves with the qualities we want to embody, such as truth, love, clarity, discernment, or service, and ask Spirit to bring us into that state. We can take a leap of faith, let go, and allow the Divine to awaken our consciousness.
It seems perfect that I have chosen the topic “Attention and Intention” for this Sunday’s Awakening Heart Spiritual Community. What is your attention on in your life right now? What intentions underlie your thoughts, words, and actions? Yes, we are meeting on the first day of Daylight Savings – Sunday, March 8th. So put your attention on adjusting your clocks, and have the intention to join us (and if you’re not in the Palo Alto, CA area, join us in spirit!).
